Speed Demon takes this opportunity to get Leila to confide in him in a further attempt to romance her while her boyfriend, Boomerang, is in prison. The remaining members of the Sinister Syndicate are still upset that the Kingpin is getting a percentage of their take. In Upper Manhattan, tensions are rising as the Rhino loses his patience with the planning phase of their next heist. That's when Boomerang's lawyer, Steven Partridge arrives with the District Attorney, who wants to cut him a deal. When he considers using the magazine as a weapon to break out of his prison, he is ordered to turn it over by his guard. Inside the prison, Boomerang is in a specially constructed cell going over a sports magazine that has chronicled his career from baseball player to super-villain. On his way out, the wall-crawler deduces that the Beetle's sonic cannon was made by the Tinkerer. However, Herman is so afraid for his life that he assures Spider-Man that he isn't planning on escaping and just wants to serve out his sentence, Spider-Man believes him and leaves. Spotting that the Shocker's cell had been blasted open, the wall-crawler swings in and thinking that the Sinister Syndicate is attempting to recruit him, demands answers. Recovering from the Beetle's attack, Spider-Man assures Code: Blue that he is okay. What the Beetle doesn't know is that Leila is only trying to get his confidence, as she is plotting to destroy him. Leila is understanding and is convinced that her boyfriend Boomerang is too well guarded to break out of prison. As they get away, the Beetle apologizes for jeopardizing their safety and expresses his doubts leading the Sinister Syndicate. That's when Leila floors it, revealing that her van can spray tear gas from the exhaust system. Before he can pull the trigger the NYPD's Code: Blue arrives on the scene to try and apprehend the Beetle. The Beetle points out that was because the Rhino didn't want to be culpable in murder and prepares to take another shot. The Beetle demands to know why she interfered, and she reminds him of his promise to the Rhino not to kill Spider-Man. Afraid that he might become a victim of either the Punisher or Scourge, Herman begins to panic. The shot ends up striking the wall of the prison, blasting a hole in the cell occupied by the Shocker. Deciding to take the kill shot, the Beetle's aim is spoiled by his getaway driver, Leila. Outside the Tomb Prison, Spider-Man has just been blasted with a sonic gun operated by the Beetle.
